Nemeza Outdoor Center – Mentchul Mountain - Village of Mala Uholka
DAY 1 (18km)
We will start our hike in the morning, directly at the Nemeza Outdoor Center, descending towards the Tereblja valley. After crossing the river we will pass through the valley until the foothills of the Mentchul mountain, where we will enter the lovely valley of Borkut. Following a small river upstream we will have the possibility to try natural mineral water from one of the springs in the valley. The valley will slowly curve up until a natural watershed, at which we will finally start our ascend on to the mountain. Small paths will lead us through beautiful beech forests and into the soothing calmness of the mountains. Bird sounds and the rustling of the leaves will accompany us until we reach the first Poloninas, the high alpine mountain meadows. This is where we will set up our first night camp.
DAY 2 (17km)
After waking up to the sounds the birds we will prepare our breakfast and enjoy the the wonderful mountain panorama surrounding us. When ready, we will continue our ascend to the top of Mentchul mountain. This part of our hike will lead us across the huge alpine meadows on to the ridge of the mountain, which we will follow until the peak. This part of the hike will be most challenging, but at the same time most rewarding, since we will be having amazing mountain views during the whole time of the passage. In good weather conditions, we will be able to look as far as to the southern Carpathians, the Hoverla (highest mountain in Ukraine) and the peaks of the Eastern Carpathians as well.
After reaching the top of Mentchul and enjoying the moment of satisfaction, we will start descending towards the forests again. Beautiful forests will close in around us, while we descend to a lovely spot, at which we set up our second night camp. In a nearby stream you will be able to refresh yourself and wash off the tiredness from your muscles, before having a tasty meal at the camp fire.
Day 3 (8km + cave exploration)
Having eaten an energizing breakfast, a very special part of our journey lays ahead of us. We will leave our backpacks in the camp and without heavy baggage we make our way to the Uholski-Shirokiluhanski massiv, where we will explore the incredible karst bridge and one of the biggest karst caves in the Eastern Carpathians.
Having explored those incredible places we will return to our camp, put on our back packs and walk one through the forest one last time until the end of our beautiful journey. Close to the village of Mala Uholka we will picked up by a driver, who brings us back to the Nemeza Outdoor center.
